“The Attributes and Actions of God:

How We Fit into His Story”

While the Bible is full of history, it is not primarily a history book. In reality, the Bible informs us of God’s story; or, “his story”. His story reveals how God desired to have a relationship with humanity before he created them and made a determination that he would pursue these relationships with men and women once he “created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1 ESV; cf. Eph. 1:3-4). Therefore, it is reasonable to ask, “How do I fit into his story?”

The Bible reveals God’s attributes through his supernatural and saving actions that compel us to participate in his story. The intent of this study is to seek to understand how God’s story and our stories come together in Jesus Christ. As we open our Bibles, I hope that his story will continue to humble and transform us as we seek to grow into a deeper relationship with God. If you are interacting with someone that wants to know more about the Bible, God and Jesus, I encourage you to invite them to this class.

Gary Dodd will be the teacher for this class. Gary is married to the former Faith Rankin. They hope to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary in August 2025. Together, they have two married children and five grandchildren. Gary started preaching at thirteen years of age and is in his 54th year of proclaiming God’s Word. Currently, Gary works with the Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI) and is blessed to travel primarily east of the Mississippi River informing people of the multiple ministries of SIBI from its training of ministers in 40 countries in about 90 different locations to its commitment, Lord willing, to help churches reestablish their works in Ukraine once the conflict in Ukraine is resolved. Gary would love to share this story of how God still is at work in this world with you and the congregation where you worship God.

“Bible Stories for Adults”

Over the years we have relegated certain sections of the Bible, both Old

and New Testaments, to the young folks or VBS. These "Bible stories" are  not then carefully examined by adults, since they are “for the children.” But in doing so, we miss some great lessons.

The apostle Paul wrote: "For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope" (Romans 15:4). These great accounts are there for our learning. This class will take a look at several of these great accounts and ask, "What is it that God wants adults  to learn from this account?"

Michael was born in Clarksville, Tennessee, July 15, 1950. He currently resides in Columbia, Tennessee.

Michael received a BS in Bible from Freed-Hardeman University in 1976, and a Master's Degree in 1982, from Harding Graduate School.

Michael has been a minister since 1971 having served churches of Christ in Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia. He has also preached in special efforts in several other states as well as several foreign countries.

Michael retired from full time preaching at the end of 2016 and served since then as director and teacher for the Nashville School of Preaching.

He is married to Mary Cato Greene. They have one son, Joey, a sweet daughter in law Amy, and two granddaughters, all of whom live in Columbia, Tennessee.
