Online Safety

Scams are prevalent throughout the world, and Graymere is no exception. We have had several affected by scams just in the last few months. On March 3, 2024, we conducted a short class and Q&A on helping our members recognize and deal with scams. Below is the video and some helpful links.

Spot a SCAM!

The two best weapons you have against scams are common sense and logic. Use them.

It’s always okay to hang up if you receive an unsolicited phone call.

Don’t panic. Scammers are out to instill fear and will use tactics to try to threaten you and get you to make bad decisions.

No one legitimate will demand that “you don’t tell anyone else about this.”

Don’t give out usernames and passwords to any accounts. Any accounts!

If you believe you have been scammed…

Act immediately. Change passwords on accounts, especially your main email account.

Walk through what happened. Get out a pen and paper and walk back through what happened, making notes of any accounts that the scammer may have gained access to.

Contact someone technically inclined to help.
